We bought a Wii tonight. After setting it up, getting it connected to the internet via our wireless access point and updating the system I can safely say I am impressed. The operating system is very intuitive and easy to use. The controllers are easy to learn. The Wii Sports package that comes with the unit is plenty entertaining without having to purchase a separate Wii game right off the bat. The device plays GameCube games and allows use of the WaveBird controllers and GC memory cards with no issue. I would have to say that this is probably one of the best experiences I have ever had with a game console out of the box.
Opera is the native web browser and it displayed all the pages I went to (including this blog) with no problem, although smaller fonts on my TV screen were a bit difficult to read.
We had to drive to Litchfield to pick this unit up. No other retailers in the St. Louis area seemed to have them in stock. While we were there, I picked up a sewing machine for the wife since I inherited her real Mother’s Day gift (the Canon Rebel XTi). The kids were all feverish and under the weather tonight. Trent didn’t even stay up to see me hook up the Wii. I told him we would play with it first thing tomorrow.
So, would I recommend you get a Wii? Oui, Oui!
